2016-2017
Dear Parent/Guardian,

Telephone: 983-2106
Classroom Rules and consequences: The expectations at Chestnut Grove are that every student be ready to learn, responsible and respectful in all of their activities at school.
In addition in our class:
Reading Curriculum:
READ 180 is a comprehensive reading intervention program designed to meet the needs of students in elementary through high school whose reading achievement is below the proficient level. These struggling readers have deficits in their understanding of the reading process and gaps in their foundational skills. READ 180 is built to address these gaps by directly addressing individual needs through instructional software, high-interest literature, and direct instruction in literacy skills.
Classroom Supplies:
We would be extremely grateful for donations of pencils, tissues and hand sanitizer.
Homework for Reading
Students will generally have 30 minutes of reading homework 4 nights per week. A more detailed description can be found on the homework page. Please contact us with any questions you may have. Students are expected to read 3 books per quarter. These should be books they can finish in 2 weeks each which will leave 2 weeks of the quarter for the students to complete a book project on one of the books they read. Students will also have 3 stems to learn per week. Other homework may be assigned on an individual basis. Homework can be modified if needed with a parent teacher conference.
Homework is an important part of your student’s education as he/she prepares to be a high school student and independent young adult. It teaches responsibility, self discipline and time management. Some students are already independent in these areas and need recognition and praise as they maintain these skills. Some students will need more support. We are looking forward to working with our students and family members to help each student be successful in this area. Please click HERE to see : Homework Tips, Parent Info: Child Development Institute link for homework implementation and lots of other helpful information for parents.

Classroom Rules and consequences: The expectations at Chestnut Grove are that every student be ready to learn, responsible and respectful in all of their activities at school.
In addition in our class:
- Students need to come to class with a pencil/pen
- Students need to get their materials and sit down before the tardy bell.
- Students need to complete homework and turn in on time
- A verbal warning, re-explanation of the expectation and a student/teacher conference to see if there is anything the student needs help with to meet the expectation.
- Failure to meet the expectation after the conference will result in a minor incident report.
- A second minor incident report and we will make a parent contact.
- A third minor incident report will result in an office referral and possibly further consequences as dictated by administration and Stokes County Schools policy.
